Industry Clean Up Day 2025
The team at Covestro recently participated with members from industries representing sections of the plastics+ value chain, in an industry clean up of plastics in Melbourne, while a similar clean up was taking part in Sydney.
Chemistry Australia with NGO partner Tangaroa Blue and other organisations in Australia arranged the annual event. Operation Clean Sweep, now in its 10th year of working with organisations and industry, with the goal of reducing plastic feedstock loss and waste.
The participating teams removed 28kg of litter from the Melbourne beachside while in Sydney 30kg was removed. Plastic nurdles were amongst the finds at both locations, along with other types of plastics that are often washed along the locations after rains and floods, highlighting the need for ongoing cleanup of the area and issues with unwanted waste. Members of the EPA were also in attendance in discussing the issues with the problem and clean up of waste.
Covestro Managing Director Matthew Ellis stated that “Our involvement in the Nurdle Hunt and Operation Clean Sweep demonstrates Covestro’s dedication to protecting waterways from plastic waste, Industry leadership means environmental accountability.
